At emwillcare, our mission is to transform dementia care by ensuring that individuals living with dementia receive the best possible support, while empowering their caregivers with effective, evidence-based strategies.
We are committed to reducing placement breakdowns, minimising the use of unlicensed antipsychotic drugs, and lowering health and social care costs—all while improving the quality of life for those affected by dementia.
Our first step in this journey is the development of Less Distress, a cutting-edge digital service that predicts and prevents distressed behaviours, helping caregivers move from reactive crisis management to proactive, person-centred care.
Through innovation, education, and collaboration, we are leading the shift towards a smarter, more compassionate approach to dementia care—one where distress is anticipated and prevented, not just managed.

Dr Emma Williams
For over 27 years, I’ve dedicated my career to understanding behaviour, improving dementia care, and supporting caregivers.
As a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA-D) and one of only 80 specialists worldwide focused on dementia, my mission is simple: to transform how we support people living with dementia and the professionals who care for them.
I founded emwillcare because I saw first-hand how care teams were left struggling to meet people’s needs—reacting to distressed behaviour instead of preventing it. Too often, outdated approaches led to crisis interventions, unnecessary medications, and overwhelmed caregivers. I knew there had to be a better way.
By combining my expertise in applied behaviour analysis, real-world experience, and smart technology, I created Less Distress—a tool designed to meet needs by predicting and preventing distressed behaviours before they escalate.
My work isn’t just about research; it’s about real solutions that make a difference in the lives of people with dementia, their families, and the care professionals who support them.
Through emwillcare, I’m on a mission to change dementia care for the better—with science, compassion, and practical behavioural strategies that actually work.
I’m aiming for a future where distressed behaviour in dementia care is prevented and not just managed - with Less Distress and more dignity.
Behaviour-Focused Care:
Prevent, Support and Transform
-
Understanding Unmet Needs
• Changes in behaviour often signal unmet needs, pain, or confusion, yet many care models still focus on reacting to distress rather than preventing it.
• At emwillcare, we take a proactive approach, identifying the root cause of behaviours to help carers respond effectively.
• Our strategies reduce crisis situations, improve quality of care, and minimise reliance on medication.
-
Who We Help
• Care home owners & commissioners seeking cost-effective solutions that enhance care quality.
• Carers & support teams who need practical, evidence-based strategies to manage dementia-related behaviours.
• NHS & social care providers integrating better behavioural support into existing care systems.
-
Technology Driven Support
Traditional methods often fail to provide long-term solutions, leading to crisis-driven care, high staff turnover, and rising costs. emwillcare helps organisations by:
• Improving staff retention with practical behavioural tools
• Reducing distressed behaviours by identifying and addressing root causes
• Enhancing care quality through a personalised, data-driven approach
• Lowering costs by reducing reliance on one-to-one staffing and medication
